Blow for Manchester City as Sergio Aguero ruled out of Champions League first leg against Barcelona

Sergio Aguero is out of Manchester City's Champions League tie with Barcelona tomorrow.

Aguero, who has been missing for three weeks with a hamstring problem, did not train with the City squad at the Etihad Stadium today.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Aguero would not play a part in the first leg of the last 16 tie, but said he could be fit for the visit of Stoke on Saturday.

Pellegrini has been boosted by the return of midfielder Fernandinho, who took part in training today after spending two weeks on the sidelines with a muscle injury.

"Aguero is not in the squad list," said Pellegrini. "We will see if he can be fit for Saturday, but maybe it's difficult.

"Fernandinho is in the squad list for tomorrow. He worked without problem [in training]."

City midfielder Yaya Toure, who left Barcelona in 2010, said: "I'm very happy with the evolution of the team. Things are going well, obviously the Champions League is our top objective, but we were unlucky to be drawn against Barcelona.

"With our coach we are learning a lot, and the team is doing well and we can do a lot of good things."

James Milner is suspended for the first leg, Fernandinho and Pablo Zabaleta are one booking away from missing the second leg at the Nou Camp in three weeks' time.
