Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that Chelsea’s ability to ‘use every trick in the book’ was a contributing factor the Blues’ 1-0 win over his side on Saturday, BBC Sport has reported.

Martinez’ visitors had the better of the first half at Stamford Bridge, but failed to seriously test home goalkeeper Petr Cech. Chelsea improved after the break with Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard both forcing good saves from Tim Howard, but the game was seemingly heading for a stalemate before the Premier League leaders grabbed the points in stoppage time.
Lampard’s free-kick from the left was attacked by Chelsea captain John Terry, but Howard, distracted by the former England captain’s presence got the final touch, and Martinez believes that the result was cruel on his team. He said: "We defended really well but John Terry was brave and they scored. Overall I thought we were the better side.
"It was a very unfair result not to get anything from the game after the performance that we had. We need to make sure that when we play well and when we deserve to get a positive result, we do that."
But the Spaniard believed that the free-kick that led to the winner should not have been given, adding: "If you watch the replay, it's not a free-kick at all. That happened with other incidents. I don't blame the referee at all. It's an incredible knowhow, using every trick in the book."
