The FA insists Roy Hodgson's job will be safe even if England fail to navigate their nightmare World Cup group in Brazil this summer.
Hodgson, who has done a "brilliant" job according to FA general secretary Alex Horne, will remain in charge of England until at least 2016.
Horne claims that the FA's sole target for Hodgson was to make it to the World Cup with tough assignments in their bid to qualify against the likes of Ukraine, Poland, Montenegro.
With their place in Brazil sealed, Horne has confirmed that Hodgson will remain in place to try and guide England to the 2016 European Championship in France.
"For me personally, Roy is our manager to France and I'm happy with that, very happy with that," Horne told the Times.
"I think he's been brilliant. He's exactly what we hoped for."
England face a tough task to make it to the knockout stages in Brazil, with Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica alongside them in Group D. Asked what he would deem an acceptable showing for England in Brazil, Horne said: "Pass mark? For me, personally, he's done it by getting through that group.
"We go with confidence. We'll prepare well. We go optimistic that we are going to enjoy it and play well. It's not an easy group, it's not an easy tournament.
"Roy stabilised the team and he's qualified us well in a tricky group. He kept his head convincingly, won the last two [against Montenegro and Poland]. I've huge respect for him."
