Ipswich striker David McGoldrick faces a battle to play again this season after being ruled out for around 10 weeks.

The news comes as a massive blow to the Suffolk club and their play-off aspirations, with McGoldrick currently leading their scoring charts with 16 goals in all competitions this season.

He sustained the injury late on in Saturday's goalless draw against Blackpool at Portman Road, which left eighth-placed Town five points off the top six in the Championship.

Town physio Matt Byard told the club's official website: "Didz has suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee.

"He had an MRI scan this morning (Monday) and will be wearing a brace for the next six weeks.

"After that, you are looking at the rehabilitation of around four weeks, so in all we'd expect Didz to be out for 10 weeks, which obviously takes us up to the last week of the season."

Midfielder Luke Hyam was also forced off after just 11 minutes against the Seasiders, having picked up a hamstring injury and is waiting to discover the full extent of his injury.
