Arbeloa swaps the pitch for the gym

"The more you sweat now, the less you'll bleed on the battle field." Arbeloa cannot get that quote from his favourite film, '300' out of his head. He has adopted it as a motto as he kick starts his recovery. The club's medical staff have advised him to rest for at least three weeks, to allow his knee time to heal. He is currently wearing a brace to immobilise his knee and help him lead as normal a life as possible. However, Arbeloa's mind is firmly set on a quick recovery.
The club's physiotherapist, Santi Lozano has developed a specific training plan aimed at getting him fully fit for the business end of the season. Álvaro goes to Real's training facilities every day to work out alone in the gym. He works hard and sweats it out in Valdebebas.
For now he is working on exercises aimed at keeping his upper body in shape, which is the only thing he can move. Once he is fit enough, he has prepared a series of exercises to strengthen his hamstrings and in a few weeks' time he will be in the pool with a float between his legs to continue his recovery.
