Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League by a commanding Barcelona last night. City battled well and pushed the Catalans but their experience shone through in the end with a 4-1 aggregate win.
Vincent Kompany needed to have a good game due to who he was marking – Lionel Messi and Neymar – and he performed well. On a sobering night that showed just how much work needs to be done at City before they can dominate in Europe, the Belgian displayed power and confidence against a glittering attack.
He was beaten in the end but Kompany can hold his head high. He completed 50 passes from an attempted 58 which is decent, especially considering he is put under a lot of pressure by Barcelona’s forwards and midfielders.
