Petition to ban Cleverley from World Cup gathers pace

Tom Cleverley is the subject of a petition being signed by England supporters calling for the midfielder to be banned from the World Cup squad this summer.
In less than 24 hours, the petition has collected over 4,000 signatures, and set up by Glenn McConnell, it is in place to protect England as a nation in football. The petition argues that the Manchester United player would damage the Three Lions' hopes in Rio in the summer.
It is likely that Cleverley will be selected by England manager Roy Hodgson, and the petition read: "Tom Cleverley, owner of 13 England caps, has been regularly selected by Roy Hodgson in his squads without possessing any genuine qualities whatsoever.
"We believe in the reputation of this proud footballing nation and that he should be prevented from attending this summer's international showcase.
"Whilst England are considered to disappoint at major tournaments, further embarrassment could be avoided by not having his inept performances undermine the rest team's efforts."
In February, Cleverley claimed he had been made a scapegoat for United's poor form this season under David Moyes following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
