Simeone is open about being a superstitious coach, having in the past admitted that he checked his horoscope before signing a player. He is also prone to repeating dynamics that have worked well previously - something he will again do today.
This afternoon, Atlético will head to the Segovian town of San Rafael for pre-match training until Friday morning, when the team will return to Madrid to catch their plane to Lisbon for the Champions League final.
Their opponents will be Real Madrid, the very same team they went up against on 17th May 2013. On that occasion, they were playing for the Copa del Rey and Atlético also took its pre-match preparations to the Los Angeles Hotel in San Rafael ahead of that final.
It was there, where Atlético also goes for two weeks of intense pre-season training in the summer, that Simeone convinced his players they could win at the Bernabéu. And that is exactly what they did.
But this Atlético are much more than lucky charms and superstitious rituals. One look at their results proves that. Plus the fact they have a shot at becoming the fourteenth team to ever win the Champions League without losing a single game.
Real, incidentally, are not amongst those teams to have achieved that particular feat. The most recent of which are the United of 2007-08, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Barcelona of 2005-06, featuring Ronaldinho and Eto'o.
