Mario Balotelli’s World Cup summer has got off to a deplorable start, after the AC Milan striker was racially abused by Italy fans at training on Tuesday.
Gazetta Dello Sport have reported that a small group of men, between 4 and 5 people, called Mario Balotelli a “black piece of shit”.
Balotelli did not react at the time, but he is reported to have told his teammates later: “this only happens in Rome and Florence”.
The Azzurri are currently staying at the Italian Football Federation’s headquarters in Coverciano for a first week of preparations ahead of this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
Italy’s first match at the World Cup is against England.
