Milan Badelj is wanted by Chelsea

Hamburg midfielder Milan Badelj has been approached by Chelsea and Tottenham, who are both keen to add the Croatia international to their ranks this summer. The 25-year-old impressed at the World Cup finals in Brazil, even though his national team were eliminated in the group stages.

This information comes courtesy of talkSPORT, who claim that sources close to Badelj have revealed that he is keen on a move to England. However, Hamburg regard the defensive midfielder as a key player and will only sell if they receive a big-money offer.

What’s all the fuss about?

To see why both Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino are keen to sign Badelj this summer, click play on this excellent compilation video. He’s a bit special, you know.

Mourinho wants another midfielder

Despite signing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, it’s clear that Mourinho wants to bolster his midfield with at least one top-level player ahead of the start of the 2014/15 campaign.

Juventus star Paul Pogba looks off limits after his agent declared the France international happy to stay in Turin, while Portugal international William Carvalho is also being monitored. Manchester United are believed to be close to wrapping up a £37 million deal for the 22-year-old.

But Chelsea have the finances available to finance a deal for Badelj, who Mourinho appears to believe would fit in at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino looking for quality additions

Similarly, Tottenham boss Pochettino is also on the hunt for a quality midfield addition. And Badelj, a player who won four league titles during his spell with Dinamo Zagreb, appears to tick all the boxes.

With the clock ticking down to the start of the new season, Spurs will be anxious to get their first summer deals over the line as soon as possible. But they will need to produce a significant offer to force Hamburg into selling their prized asset.
