A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool…

Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has been speaking about the club’s current defence and the problems they have suffered at times this campaign.

Writing in the Liverpool Echo, the pundit said, “The bad news is a massive transformation in the way Liverpool defend isn’t going to happen this season.

“The Reds are going to have to hope the forward four – which I think is now the best in the Premier League – keep knocking in the goals.”

But Lawrenson also believes the return of Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson is a huge boost as they attempt to see out the current campaign in the top four.

In transfer news, the Mirror reports that Joe Allen is a transfer target for Everton.

Allen has failed to nail down a first-team place at Anfield and Toffees’ manager Roberto Martinez knows him extremely well following their time together at Swansea City.

The report claims Liverpool may be willing to sell him this summer…but to their Merseyside rivals? That remains to be seen.

What needs to change in Liverpool's defence next season?
