Arsenal step up chase for Belgian starlet

Arsenal have set the wheels in motion for a summer move for Michy Batshuayi, after asking Standard Liege to name their price, according to reports from The Metro.

The 20-year-old striker has recently emerged as Belgium’s next top talent, with his 35 goals in 83 matches since his debut alerting top clubs from across Europe.

Arsenal have been linked with his signature for some time, with Arsene Wenger rumoured to be an admirer of the youngster.

It is now understood that contact between the Londoners and the starlet’s employers has been made, with discussions over his value the subject of debate.

The Gunners are believed to be willing to spend around £10m to lure him across to England, and are ready to put that sum on the table if Standard are tempted.

Batshuayi has already been compared to Aston Villa ace Christian Benteke, who took to the Premier League well following his 2012 arrival at Villa Park.

The youngster is known to be quick, strong and good in front of goal, and is seen by the Gunners as the ideal man to keep the pressure on Olivier Giroud.

Everton are also keen, but Arsenal’s increased ability to offer European football may be a deciding factor.
