Mata must not play in Rooney's shadow

Ex-Manchester United star Mark Bosnich believes his former club should play Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata in the No.10 role, reports talkSPORT.

The Red Devils have secured just one victory since Mata arrived at the club last month and Bosnich believes the United boss must play the Spaniard, along with Rooney, in his best position.

Manchester United's latest setback came against Arsenal at the Emirates last night as they drew 0-0 with the north London outfit.

Mata and Rooney struggled to open up the Gunners' defence and Bosnich believes they must play in a central role.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Bosnich said: "What they could do is play with a dual number ten. They can play like they did last night with two defensive midfielders but with Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney in front and with two speedsters either side."

After Manchester United's draw with Arsenal last night, Moyes' side now have 10 days off before playing Crystal Palace on February 22.

The Manchester United boss' attention will then turn to Champions League football as the Old Trafford outfit take on Olympiacos in the Round of 16 of the competition.

Manchester United will be desperate to progress in Europe, with the competition representing the Red Devils' only chance of winning silverware this season.
