Chelsea and Leeds hero Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink called it the lowest point in his career.

Shocking scenes was spotted in the Belgium second division on Saturday as Royal Antwerp’s match with STVV was abandoned when ultras rioted causing the referee to call the game off.

The incident took place when Antwerp were trailing STVV 1-0, and as a result of the trouble from supporters in the home section the hosts were slapped with a 5-0 defeat after the game was stopped.

After 24 minutes of the encounter ultras began hurling fireworks onto the pitch which forced the players and the officials to run to safety. Moments later the ultras stormed the pitch to ensure the game was called off.

In a twist, Royal Antwerp are now blaming foreign fans for causing the trouble. According to reports in Het Laatste Nieuws, Dutch fans from Feyenoord and Groningen are said to have been the troublemakers in the ground, rather than the local Antwerp fans.

Whether those allegations are true or not, Royal Antwerp are now facing a hefty fine for the unruly behaviour at the game, and most expect the club to be slapped with playing behind closed doors as a punishment.
