Quick summer signings needed - Watson

Former player Gordon Watson has told Southampton not to "dilly dally" this summer and get new signings in before the World Cup. The 43-year-old ex-striker made just over 50 appearances for the Saints during a two-year spell at the club from 1995-97, but he set his roots in the city and runs a property renovation business. Watson remains a big follower of the club's fortunes and having seen them build on last season's survival by already securing a comfortable top-10 finish this term, he is looking for the club to be "aggressive" in this upcoming transfer window to ensure they do not stand still or slip back next term. He told the Daily Echo: "I would like to see new signings in place before the World Cup starts. "You cannot dilly dally this summer, you cannot be seen to be laying over and having your belly tickled. "Saints' stock is high, their manager's stock is high, and the players' stock is high. "Some of the players will be on the wish-lists of other managers. "Saints therefore need to get new players in as early as they can, make a statement of intent to the players they have got and the manager. "I am sure the manager would have a list of targets in his mind already. There are players out there."
