Andre Villas-Boas is back in management after agreeing a two-year contract to take over at Zenit St Petersburg.

Villas-Boas has been out of work since his was sacked by Tottenham in December, but he has now been appointed as Luciano Spalletti’s successor at the Petrovsky Stadium.

Spalletti was given his march orders last week following a disappointing campaign with his final match in charge the 4-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last-16 first-leg tie.

Sergey Semak was appointed as acting head coach but Villas-Boas will take charge of the side’s second leg clash with the German outfit.

“Zenit have agreed terms on a contract with new head coach Andre Villas-Boas,” a club statement read.

“The contract will be signed and Villas-Boas will be presented in St Petersburg as Zenit’s new head coach on March 20. Villas-Boas’ contract begins in March 2014 and is valid for two seasons.”

Villas-Boas won the Portuguese league, the Europa League and the Portuguese Cup during his one season at Porto, but he struggled to make the same impact during spells at Chelsea and Spurs.
