Huddersfield manager Mark Robins bemoaned his side's lack of consistency after last week's high scoring victory was followed by another disappointing defeat in the Sky Bet Championship.

After the elation of a 5-0 home defeat of Barnsley came the dejection of a 2-0 setback at Doncaster and Robins said: "We just seem to go from the sublime to the ridiculous.

"We did have a spell at the start of the game but it didn't last and in all honesty we didn't look like scoring.

"We just didn't have any teeth and it pains me to say it but they have caught us and seem to want it more.

"We had well over 2,000 supporters here today and we had to do better for them than that.

"Fortunately we've got a game midweek where we can put it right. The players are capable but we have to do better if we are going to move forwards.

"I don't know whether it's a feeling of safety being mid table but we can't keep winning one week and losing the next.

"I thought Doncaster were physically stronger and more up for the game and it's embarrassing for me to sit here and say that."

Huddersfield began at a cracking pace but had no response when Billy Sharp fired the home side in front after Gabriel Tamas had headed down a 28th minute corner.

Town again started well in the second half but faded after Rovers had scored a splendid second goal with David Cotterill slotting home following good work by Chris Brown and Mark Duffy in the 55th minute.

It was a big win for Doncaster following last week's 5-0 defeat at Bournemouth and manager Paul Dickov said: "I expected a response after that and I knew I was going to get one.

"We owed the fans after Bournemouth where we let ourselves and them down and we played like we can do today.

"I said to the players before the game not to leave anything out there and when you have a team willing to run and put their bodies on the line then you are difficult to beat.

"We just need to keep our standards high because we know we are capable of beating most teams when we play like that.

"Nahki Wells can be a handful but I thought our back four was outstanding.

"We had winners all over the pitch and Chris Brown chased everything down and was unplayable up front.

"It was a great team performance but when you have players like that it rubs off on everyone else.

"Billy Sharp scored a great opener for us and that's why we signed him. There wasn't another player on the pitch today who could have snatched a goal like that."

Fed up: Macheda refused to blame the United players for this poor season

Federico Macheda has refused to lay the blame for Manchester United's poor season at the door of the players.

The Red Devils have struggled to adjust under David Moyes following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, and the champions are currently a whopping 18 points behind league leaders Chelsea in seventh.

They also trail fourth-placed Manchester City by 12 points and their hopes of playing in next season's Champions League realistically hinge on winning the tournament, but Moyes' side were beaten 2-0 by Olympiacos from the first leg in Greece last month.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, the Italian said: "It’s been very difficult, I don’t know the reasons why [they're struggling]. Are new players needed? Well yes, of course, but last season they won the title with the same team and now they’ve got Juan Mata.

“People say they need new signings but it’s still basically the same team that finished first last year. It’s a big gap to the top four but they could have a chance. This season the title has gone but there is always next season."

Macheda is out of contract at the end of the season, but with Moyes set to be begin a major phase of his Old Trafford restoration, it is unlikely the 22-year-old will be kept on

East Stirlingshire chairman Tony Ford has warned his players could walk off the park if there is any repetition of the racist incident which marred his side's game at Peterhead last week.

Teenage defender Jordan Tapping suffered the abuse at Balmoor Stadium before being substituted and leaving the pitch in tears 20 minutes from the end of Peterhead's 4-0 victory.

A 19-year-old was fined and banned from attending football matches for a year after admitting 'shouting a racially offensive comment' and now Ford is threatening direct action should it happen again.

Speaking to Sky Sports News he said: "I'm worried this instance isn't isolated at all. We have had problems in the past and other clubs have had the same around the UK. It's something in society that isn't required and isn't needed.

"I felt a bit sorry for the referee. They are given clear instructions of what they can and can't do and, to be fair to him, he was in a situation where he didn't know what sort of action to take.

"Things have happened since then. Obviously we have been in discussions and we have had an investigation ourselves and there is a move to change this.

"But if this happens again we turn round to the players and say 'if you're unhappy on the park talk to the manager on the touchline and come off the park'. Simple as that.

"If it goes on we will just refuse to play. Why should you accept racism on the field of play? I often wonder to myself why it is a problem in football. It has to stop and it has to stop right now.

"You have to make a positive stand. I appreciate that the referee will be the man in charge but at the end of the day you have to protect your players, your youth players and the reputation of your club."

Man United: Moyes Is Alienating Players & Fans With His Pathetic Excuses

David Moyes would have us believe that the gods are against him, and have been since the day he walked through the doors of Old Trafford to take over one of the footballing world’s biggest and most prestigious posts.

The rub of the green; injuries; incompetent referees; nasty computers that cackle as they spew forth their fixture lists. All of these things, and more, have apparently conspired against the Manchester United manager, making his first season in charge of the champions ‘much worse’ than he expected it to be.

During desperate times, when someone feels that the whole world is against them, and all their best laid plans lie in ruins at their feet, it is a perfectly understandable, human reaction to try to find something, or someone, other than themselves, to blame.

David Moyes has generally pointed the finger squarely at that precious commodity, luck, or a lack of it, to explain United’s catastrophic demise since he took charge last summer.

In so doing, he is insulting the intelligence of a set of supporters who have been suckled on success over many years, and who have grown so accustomed to, not just winning, but winning in style, that they now demand it as their divine right.

Another disappointing display against dire opposition, in front of a home crowd starved of the sustenance they have taken for granted for so long, was followed by yet more pathetic platitudes from the mouth of a manager tripping himself up over the wool he is trying to pull over eyes that cannot be blinded.

Moyes could do worse than to take a leaf out of Ernest Hemingway’s book, ‘The Old Man and the Sea,’ in which Hemingway’s old man says “It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact.” For great managers do not rely on luck. They rely on their own greatness, and their ability to get the best from the players at their disposal. Rarely do we hear the likes of Ferguson, Mourinho or Guardiola decrying the hand they have been dealt. Yet Moyes has made misfortune his mistress over the last six months.
